Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress and
to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Who We Are
We are God’s children, growing in loving relationships with Jesus, one another, and our neighbors in Brooklyn and beyond. You are also the children of God visiting us and our neighbors. Our vision is that you would be a bridge, linking us by relationship to many more of our neighbors than we can reach on our own. Your mission while you are here is to reach into our community in many different ways: through prayer, service, verbal witness, sports, activities – use your imagination to plan creatively! We pray that you will be blessed by the many experiences you will have and by our congregation as you join with us to minister in Brooklyn.
Ministry Specifics
Each ministry team will be designed differently based on your group’s gifts and abilities. You may do a combination of things. Whatever the project you are doing, each is designed to play a role in reaching the community with the good news of Christ. Most of these efforts will be centered on reaching children and teens. Nearly 25% of our community is under the age of 18, so there will be plenty of opportunities!
Your team is responsible for the preparations for your ministry activities. We encourage your group to spend a considerable amount of time in training and preparation, both for the cultural and spiritual aspects of your trip as well as ministry specifics. All VBS preparation should be complete on your arrival, and other activities like sports ministries, youth events, etc, should be nearly complete on arrival.
VBS Groups
Majority of the children in our VBS come from Chinese immigrant families in the neighborhood. In 2010, we will have two VBS groups (Group A and Group B) running at two nearby locations in Brooklyn. Your ministry team could either serve (a) Group A (30 to 35 children), (b) Group B (55-60 children), or (c) both Group A and Group B (total of 85 to 95 children).
-
Group A - 1st and 2nd graders (30 to 35 children) at Dorcas Center (6611 Fort Hamilton Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11219) *We suggest the ministry team for Group A to have about 3 to 4 lead teachers and 4 to 6 helpers.
-
Group B - 3rd to 5th graders (55 to 60 children) at First Evangelical Free Church (6501 6th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220) *We suggest the ministry team for Group B to have about 5 to 6 lead teachers and 6 to 8 helpers.
